Despite loss, DePaul's post season chances alive
CHICAGO – Despite falling 1-0 to Notre Dame in the 106th minute at Wish Field on a goal by Lauren Bohaboy, DePaul still has a chance to qualify for the Big East Championship.
The Blue Demons will need to get some help, however. If Connecticut and Syracuse win their matches at home on Saturday, the Blue Demons would qualify.
DePaul (8-9-2, 3-6-1 in the Big East) stood toe-to-toe with Notre Dame (12-4-2, 8-1-1) for more than 105 minutes as a steadfast defense featuring Sara Gorden, Kylie Nordness, Rachel Pitman and Ren Stoecklin blocked seven Fighting Irish shots and disrupted the offensive flow.
Blue Demon goalkeeper Megan Pyrz made six saves, but couldn’t alter Bohaboy’s fifth goal of the season in both teams’ regular-season finale at Wish Field.
“We have some of the best defenders in the Big East, and our defending is really good,” said DePaul coach Erin Chastain. “We need to take the next step and do some special things in the attacking end.
“We had two good chances to score. Their goalkeeper got on one, and we just missed connecting on the other one.
