BULLDOGGED
Butler batters DePaul, 3-1
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—A quick start went to waste as the DePaul Blue Demons fell 3-1 to Butler Wednesday at the Butler Bowl.
DePaul’s Willy Lara put the Bulldogs – who had surrendered only seven goals in their first 11 matches -- on their heels by scoring in the second minute of the match. It did not take long for Butler to recover their composure, however, and Jacob Capito tapped in the equalizer in the sixth minute.
Brett Heinz picked up his second assist of the match in the 23rd minute, with a long pass that Jacob Capito headed home for the game-winning score.
Boris Gatzky put the game out of reach in the 79th minute, beating netminder Joe Ferrari one-on-one after picking off a bad clearing pass.
The Blue Demons got only one shot through to winning goalkeeper Fabian Knopfler, who made the save. Ferrari stopped two as DePaul was outshot 11-6.
