INDIANA HOOSIERS

September 10, 2012
WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Indiana junior Rebecca Candler

Indiana junior Rebecca Candler has been selected as the Chicagoland Soccer News Women’s College Player of the Week for the week ending September 9.

Candler scored a goal and added two assists in the Hoosiers’ 5-0 win over Xavier on Friday, marking the Medina, Ohio native's return to her home state.

In the fourth minute, the Hoosiers put together a beautiful combination play with Candler and Orianica Velasquez that put Candler into the box. As she continued to pursue the XU goal, the ball was knocked away by a Musketeer defender. Rebecca Dreher pounced on it from six yards out on the right side and chipped it over the diving keeper to put the Hoosiers ahead, 1-0, with her second goal of the year.

In the 13th minute, Candler found a loose ball on a breakaway and used her speed to outrace the XU defender to the ball and beat the keeper low on the left side to make it 2-0 in favor of the Hoosiers with her third goal of the season.

In the 66th minute, Candler’s stellar individual effort saw her end up with the ball on the left endline, where she crossed the ball to the back post to the head of Bekah White and into the back of the net for her first career goal to give Indiana a 5-0 lead.
