MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Northwestern's Joey Calistri
Northwestern freshman Joey Calistri has been selected as the Chicagoland Soccer News Menís College Player of the Week for the week ending September 9.
Calistri scored three goals in two games over the weekend, the first goals of his collegiate career.
On Friday, in the Wildcat's 2-1 win over Kentucky, Calistri, who had entered the game just 81 seconds earlier, scored to level the score 1-1 in the 75th minute.
On Sunday, in the Wildcats 3-2 win over Rhode Island, Calistri scored two second half goals.
With the game tied 1-1, Calistri restored a Northwestern advantage when he received a pass from Chris Ritter in the box and one-timed it past Rhode Island goalkeeper Thomas Spenser from six yards out. Twenty minutes later, Calistri and Ritter connected once again with some crafty play in the 18-yard box to give the Wildcats a two-goal cushion.
