BIG TEN FROSH HONOR
Wildcats Keeper Bergman weekly winner

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern goalkeeper Rachel Bergman (West Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day School) was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week..

Bergman played all 180 minutes in net over the weekend, helping the Wildcats shut out Northern Illinois 2-0 Friday and Yale by the same 2-0 score on Sunday. The NU freshman stopped two shots in each contest, helping Northwestern stay unbeaten in its last three matches and improve to 4-2-1 on the season.

Friday’s shutout also was the first career win for Bergman, who has been NU’s starting goalkeeper the last four matches.

This is the first Big Ten honor for Bergman and she is the first NU freshman to receive the weekly accolade since current junior Kate Allen’s freshman of the week award on Aug. 23, 2010.

Michigan's Corinne Harris, a native of Chicago, hares the honor after she scored two goals 51 seconds apart in the Wolverines victory over Butler (3-0)
