September 3, 2012
WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Notre Dame Gk Elyse Hight

Notre Dame freshman goalkeeper Elyse Hight has been selected as the Chicagoland Soccer News Women’s College Player of the Week for the week ending September 2.

Hight went the distance and made three saves as the Irish women defeated No. 24/16 Santa Clara, 2-1 on Friday night in the adidas Invitational opener for both teams before a crowd of 1,271 fans at Alumni Stadium. On Sunday, Hight registered a season-high seven saves as the Irish were outshot 18-3 in a narrow 1-0 loss to powerhouse North Carolina.

On Sunday, Hight’s heroics started in the 20th minute, when she soared to tip a shot by tournament Offensive MVP Summer Green over the bar. In the 58th, she picked off Alyssa Rich’s right-footed side volley, and with seven minutes left on the clock, she won a 1v1 battle with UNC’s Ranee Premji.
