WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Notre Dame freshman Cari Roccaro
Notre Dame freshman forward Cari Roccaro is the Chicagoland Soccer News Women’s College Player of the Week for the week ending September 23.
Roccaro had two goals and an assist over two games last week, starting with a 16th-minute volley to start the Fighting Irish on their way to a 2-1 win over Pittsburgh on Friday night.
Roccaro extended her goal-scoring streak to three games on Sunday, and added an assist, in a 3-0 non-conference win over Oakland at Alumni Stadium. Roccaro helped set the table for fellow freshman Crystal Thomas in the 69th minute, then converted a pass from junior midfielder Mandy Laddish with just under 10 minutes remaining to give the Fighting Irish a 2-0 lead. Laddish collected the ball near the top of the attacking third and served a pass down the right channel for Roccaro, who split a pair of defenders and drove toward the top right of the six-yard box before hammering a low shot just inside the far left post.
