MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UIC’S Slobodan Aleksov
UIC junior forward Slobodan Aleksov has been selected as the Chicagoland Soccer News Men's College Player of the Week for the week ending October 14.
Aleksov scored three goals in two games for the Flames, including both game-winners in 3-1 wins over Loyola on Wednesday and Drake on Saturday.
The Belgrade, Serbia native scored two goals in the first seven minutes of UIC’s win over intracity rival Loyola. The goals were the first two of his career, beginning with a left-footed blast and following up 90 seconds later with a finish off his right foot.
In the Flames’ road win at Drake, Aleksov netted the game-winner in the 75th minute, converting a strike from the top of the 18-yard box.
“Slobodan’s play over the past week in games has been tremendous,” said UIC head coach Sean Phillips. “It is great to see someone who continued to train incredibly hard this season while not playing a large number of minutes, earn an opportunity and take advantage of it this past week. We are looking forward to his continued contributions as we move into the final three weeks of the Horizon League’s regular season.”
