MLS awards defender, referee and humanitarian of the year

NEW YORK--- Seattle Sounders FC defender Chad Marshall been named Major League Soccer's 2014 Defender of the Year. In addition, Mark Geiger has been named Referee of the Year. Paul Scott picked up the Assistant Referee of the Year award. Los Angeles Galaxy defender AJ DeLaGarza was selected as humanitarian of the year.

The U.S. youngsters, who counted seven MLS-contracted players among them, won two of three against European (and Canadian) counterparts in the past week on a trip to Marbella, Spain.

Whatever Jurgen Klinsmann thinks about MLS apparently doesn't translate north of the border. Canada has called in 20 players from Major League Soccer teams for the upcoming international fixture date, four more than the United States.
