Lichaj, Guzan see action against Fire
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill---There was a strong local flavor to Aston Villa’s 1-0 win over the Chicago Fire on Saturday night. Downers Grove native Eric Lichaj played 56 minutes for Aston Villa, while Homer Glen native Brad Guzan entered the match in the 79th minute. Guzan just signed a contract extension with Villa this past week.
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert said Guzan will compete for the starting spot. "I have two very good goalkeepers," he said.
Lichaj said it was nice to finally play in front of his family and hometown crowd. He made the trip with the U.S. National Team for a friendly two years ago, but didn't make an appearance.
"It felt good to be playing tonight, especially playing in front of my parents and brothers," Lichaj said. "I was home with my family, but now it's back to training and playing. That's my job and I enjoy it very much."
