June 19, 2006 FALLING RESERVES Kansas City Tops Fire Reserves 3-2
The Kansas City Wizards' reserves (3-1-0, 9 pts.) moved into a tie for second place in Major League Soccer's Reserve Division with a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Fire reserves (2-2-0, 6 pts.). Ryan Pore netted his second and third goals of the year in the reserve division, and Jack Jewsbury buried a penalty kick in the 77th minute for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Pore gave Kansas City a 1-0 halftime lead when he collected a rebound just outside the six-yard box in the 15th minute and hit a shot into the top right corner of the open net. Chicago goalkeeper Matt Pickens was unable to recover quick enough after diving to make a save on Sergei Raad's hard
bending shot moments earlier.
Chicago tied the game in the 50th minute on Jack Stewart's back-post header that he knocked in on a cross from Justin Mapp, but the Wizards responded
quickly to retake the lead. Once again it was Pore who found the netting for Kansas City. Pore and Jermaine Hue pieced together a couple of quick
passes just inside the top right corner of the penalty box and Pore finished it off with a side-footed shot that beat a diving Pickens to the near post.
The Wizards added to their lead ten minutes later, and once again it was Pore's effort that led to the goal. The second-year forward broke through
the Fire backline and was faced with a one-on-one opportunity with Pickens just before he was taken down from behind by Idris Ughiovhe as he entered
the penalty box, giving Kansas City the PK. Jewsbury left no doubt on his spot kick, blasting a low shot just inside the right post for a 3-1 lead.
Chicago closed the gap to one-goal in the match's final ten minutes thanks to a bomb from Jared Montz from well outside the penalty box that snuck just under the cross bar in the top right corner of the goal, giving the game its final 3-2 score.
