Chicago was selected as the best sports city in America by The Sporting News, topping a list of 99 other cities. The selection was based on a variety of criteria, including winning record, number of teams, ownership and facilities, as well as fan fervor.
While the Fire and soccer were not mentioned at all by the magazine, Fire President/CEO John Guppy and forward Chris Rolfe will be on hand at U.S. Cellular Field Wednesday, to take part in The Sporting News Best Sports City ceremony lauding Chicago as the nation’s top sports town.
Although initially left off the invitation list for the ceremony, Guppy and Rolfe will be among several players, coaches and front office staff from various Chicago sports teams invited to the ceremony, which is being held prior to the White Sox-Yankees game at 7:05 p.m. CT on the south side. Comcast SportsNet Chicago will carry the ceremony live during its White Sox pregame coverage.
