Comeback from early deficit against Charge

MILLERSVILLE, Md.--- Michele Weissenhofer scored two goals as the Chicago Red Stars maintained control of first place in the WPSL Elite with a 3-1 win over the ASA Chesapeake Charge on Friday night.

Chesapeake put the Red Stars on their heels early when Jessica Hnatiuk put away a penalty kick in the 23rd minute, marking only the second time this season the Red Stars have trailed.

In the 46th minute, Weissenhofer took a ball from Lori Chalupny and drove the defense before blasting a shot into the net for the equalizer.
Two minutes later, Weissenhofer returned the favor and Chalupny broke in 1v1 to give the Red Stars a 2-1 lead.

After a 40 minute lightning delay in the 57th minute, the game resumed and Chicago found one more goal. Lauren Alkek made a run to the end line and sent a cross which Weissenhofer fired into the net from point blank range in the 78th minute.
The Red Stars continue the road trip against the Philadelphia Fever on Sunday.
