The Chicago Fire claimed another berth in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday, defeating Columbus Crew SC 2-1 at Toyota Park on the back of a David Accam brace. Accam had plenty of help in the attack, thanks in part to the return of midfielder John Goossens to the lineup.

Razvan Cocis was one of three goal scorers against Philadelphia last week, and the Fire hope they can keep that attacking momentum alive on Tuesday in the Open Cup  against Columbus Crew SC. The Chicago Fire enter Round of 16 play on Tuesday in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play, hosting league rival Columbus Crew SC at Toyota Park.

The final 12 teams needed to fill in the 2016 U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 Bracket were decided Wednesday night with the NASL's New York Cosmos and Ft. Lauderdale Strikers the only two non-Division I clubs to join the host of MLS sides that make up the rest of the field for the business end of the competition.

Rusty Fire need pks to advance in Open Cup

Goalkeeper Matt Lampson stopped two pks to help the Fire take Wednesday night's penalty shootout against Indy Eleven by a 4-3 margin. The Chicago Fire advanced to the next round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Wednesday night, but after putting just eight of their 27 shots on frame, it took penalties to down NASL's Indy Eleven. The win marked the second consecutive year the Fire needed at least extra time to beat a lower division side in the tournament.
