AUSTRALIA : PLAYERS TO WATCH
After he decided against playing for Croatia (his parents'
homeland), despite performing for Dinamo Zagreb, team
captain and forward Mark Viduka became a vital part
of the team under former coach Frank Farina. The Middlesbrough
(England) player is known for his shooting accuracy,
although his international production (six goals in
thirty-one appearances) belies that. Midfielder Mark
Bresciano, the first Australian to succeed in Italy's
Serie A with Parma, is the side's playmaker. He has
a reputation for being in the right place at the right
time, scoring key goals (including the playoff strike).
Left-sided attacking midfielder Harry Kewell, after
several injuries and poor play for Leeds (England) has
worked himself into better form, enjoying a rousing
performance in the Uruguay playoff.
