HANOVER---Bartosz Bosacki scored his first two international goals to lead Poland to a 2-1 win over Costa Rica Tuesday.
The two teams, whose World Cup officially ends today, put on an entertaining attacking game.
Costa Rica’s attack showed dividends 25 minutes in, when Paolo Wanchope who had broken free, was taken down just outside the area by7 Jacek Bac. Ronald Gomez took the free kick from just outside the penalty area. Gomez’s left-footed shot was shielded from Polish goalkeeper Artur Boruc by the wall and slipped between the stunned keepers legs.
Bosacki got into the act in the 33rd minute heading in a corner kick from Maciej Zurawski
Bosacki gave Poland the lead in the 66 minute on another set piece, this time lining up at the back post as an in-swinging free kick sailed across the goal mouth. Bosacki got up over Paolo Wanchope and headed the ball into the goal.
Wanchope, playing in his last international continually pestered the Polish defense. In the 9th minute his long range shot was easily handled by Boruc. In the32nd minute, Wanchope had another opportunity from inside the penalty area, but failed to connect.
Wanchope also had an 83rd minute goal called back when he was whistled offside.
