Ecuador's opponents complained it had an unfair home advantage during World Cup qualifying due to its home matches being played in the rarefied air of Quito in the Andes mountains, some 9,252 feet above sea level. Now, those same teams and other countries might be in awe of the South Americans' incredible rise to new dizzying heights in the world's greatest stage. Not only did Ecuador qualify for the second round behind its solid, 3-0 victory over Costa Rica at AOL Arena Thursday, the victory made the team and Germany the first countries to book a spot in the round of 16.
