SWEET MUSIC
Brazil dances past Japan to win group F
It was Brazilian samba versus Tokyo technopop, and the result was one of the most entertaining matches of the 2006 World Cup. In the end, Brazil dominated 4-1 behind a two-goal performance by resurgent superstar Ronaldo, who is now tied with German icon Gerd Muller for the all-time World Cup scoring lead with 14 goals.

It took Australia 32 years to score their first World Cup goal. It took Tim Cahill five minutes to score his country’s second. The Everton midfielder’s dramatic brace in the final six minutes lifted Australia to a stunning 3-1 over Japan in a Group F opener at Fritz-Walter-Stadion.

OVERCOMING THE ODDS
Japan needs an upset to advance
Like it or not, Japan is not being given much of a chance to get out of Group F in one apiece. And for good reason. With defending champion Brazil the overwhelming favorites to win the World Cup and a solid Croatia side, it will be difficult becoming one of the two teams to reach the second round. Of course, coach Zico would love to extract a point -- a tie -- from his native country, Brazil, as he did during the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup.
