Eclipse teams post impressive weekend
CHICAGO -- The Eclipse Select Soccer Club Elite Clubs National League teams posted some impressive efforts both on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball this past weekend.
The U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-18 ECNL teams each had a 5-0 shutout victory against St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro on Saturday and the U-14s earned a draw for an unbeaten performance against SLSG Metro in Oak Brook, Ill.
The U-15, U-17 and U-18 teams followed that up with victories against the Minnesota Thunder in Naperville, Ill., with the U-15s netting a 3-0 victory, the U-17s a 2-0 win and the U-18s a 2-1 victory. Alexa Ben (Schaumburg, Ill.) assisted both goals for the U-17s. The U-16 team dropped a tough 1-0 decision against Minnesota.
Summer Schafer (Oak Brook, Ill.) led the Eclipse Select U-18 ECNL team with two goals against SLSG Metro, including a ninth-minute score that would hold up as the game-winner. Michelle Prokof (Gurnee, Ill.), Jackie Georgoulis (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and Lauren Sajewich (Frankfort, Ill.) each had a goal. Defensively, Eclipse Select got a huge boost from goalkeeper Cristina Mursuli (Inverness, Ill.) who made a big stop on a SLSG Metro penalty kick in the first half with the team hanging onto a 1-0 lead at the time.
For the Eclipse Select U-17 ECNL team, Kela Gray (Chicago, Ill.) had a goal and assist en route to the 5-0 win against SLSG Metro. Meghan Sadera (Winnetka, Ill.), Carrie Madden (Deer Park, Ill.) and Natalie Lotz (Wheatfield, Ind.) had second-half goals for Eclipse Select.
The Eclipse Select U-16 ECNL squad had five different goal scorers. Hannah Mussallem (Palos Heights, Ill.) and Elizabeth Woerner (Normal, Ill.) each had a goal and assist and Ann Marie Niro (Barrington, Ill.), Kayla Sharples (Naperville, Ill.) and Maya Neal (Naperville, Ill.) all contributed tallies.
The U-15 ECNL team was led by Ena Sabanagic (Schaumburg, Ill.) who scored three of the team's five goals. Zoe Redei (Highland Park, Ill.) had the game-winning goal with a 14th-minute free kick and Alissa Gorzak (Naperville, Ill.) capped off the scoring in the 67th minute.
The U-14s played to a 3-3 draw against SLSG Metro as Channing Foster (Murray, Ky.) scored two goals and Samantha Salay (Glenview, Ill.) contributed a goal in a topsy-turvy match that included two SLSG Metro leads and Eclipse Select rallying for a 3-2 lead briefly before surrendering the advantage one minute later.
